You'll need to stick with Hyper Light Drifter during its opening stretch, as there's precious little hand-holding to be found.

This can actually prove to be quite an obstacle to progress early on in the game. Everything is communicated by way of symbols and pictographs, whether it's the lamentations of a downtrodden NPC or a simple tutorial for a new special move. In a world filled with tales of loss, hardship and heroism, however, there isn't a single piece of written text to be found. Its devastated fantasy world is rendered with a striking neon palette and accompanied by a hauntingly beautiful synth soundtrack. Hyper Light Drifter is a triumph of world creation as much as anything else. A whole new world (don't you dare close your eyes) Indeed, the world of Hyper Light Drifter itself is one big enigma you'll long to crack. There's a semi-open world to explore, bosses to fight, weapon upgrades to be obtained, simple lock-and-key puzzles to negotiate, and stacks of secrets to discover. This is a top-down action-RPG with four sprawling dungeons, which can be tackled in more or less any order. That said, at least a few of them seem to have been borrowed and repurposed from the early Zelda playbook. Heart Machine's game is a brilliantly self-contained experience, and one that seems to play by its own rules. And not just because it predates all of those aforementioned games. To call Hyper Light Drifter derivative would be to do it a grave disservice though. It's got a little of Enter The Gungeon's balletic top-down shooting, a smidgen of of Hollow Knight's weighty swordplay, and a light-footed ninja protagonist worthy of Dead Cells. Now there's another to add to the list in Hyper Light Drifter. Another finger that will take more time to get tired.Switch owners have been rather spoiled for brilliant indie action-adventures with crunchy combat of late. I also found going to the controller options on the Xbox One to change the A bottom to RB will give you an extra few minutes, as you'll be using your index finger instead of you thumb. Otherwise your fingers will hurt too much, and you'll just be drained by all the adrenaline. This really is something you should only really attempt maybe 10-15 minutes at a time(Maybe even just once a day, tried it again a few hours later and my fingers still hurt too much to get anywhere). I got to around 400 pretty easily that way, but by that point my fingers were hurting from my other attempts and I lost the timing. So I plan to just go back and forth in the bottom part of the room, just going left and right. My main issue is hitting walls, and not my timing. I've found that the bottom of the room has a ton of leeway with the bottom wall, you can get much closer to it than you'd think without hitting it. I found a video on youtube that shows off a similar strategy to mine (It's on the PS4, but the same methods still apply):ĭamn, got to 704 and then hit a wall. It took me about 3 minutes and 8 seconds to get to 800 dashes. When I finally completed the achievement, I was hitting the button about 4 times a second, and I traveled around the room counterclockwise, doing my best to stay in the middle of the track. Not only that, you have to navigate your character around the room so that you don't run into the walls, because if you do run into the walls even a little bit, you crash and stop dashing. The timing is pretty lenient, but if you mash the button too fast, you will stop dashing, and if you take too long to press the button, you will stop dashing. In order to do a dash combo correctly, you have to time your button presses. It took me about 3-4 hours to finally do it. Now, getting 800 dashes in a row is no easy task. "The Dash Eternal" achievement and a new color outfit unlocks at 800 dashes in a row A gold piece unlocks at 100 dashes in a row The "Chain Dash Champion" achievement unlocks at 25 dashes in a row There are four things that you can unlock in this room by getting a high enough dash combo:

When you're in this room, there is a white counter at the bottom of the screen that keeps track of your most recent chain dash combo, and a pink counter that keeps track of your personal record. Then, you need to go to the large room to the right of the dash shop, where you can practice your new dash ability to your heart's content. This is the ability where the video tutorial tells you to press +. First things first, you need to buy the chain dash ability from the dash shop in the town area.
